First Place at the 2023 Oregon Society of Artists Photography Exhibit

I am honored that my Image “Along the Trail, Silver Falls Park” was awarded First Place at this year’s Oregon Society of Artists Photography Showcase. This year the show included 95 outstanding images by photographers of all genres from throughout the greater Portland region.

This image was made on an October afternoon as I was hiking along the trail between Twin Falls and North Falls in Silver Falls State Park. As I stopped and turned around to look down the canyon, I noticed the unique forest-filtered light coming in from the south. I quickly framed up this hand-held composition dominated by an old maple tree with its sunlit leaves and moss-covered branches and trunk.

Oregon Society of Artists 2022 Photography Showcase

I am honored that my image "Tree Trunk in River Current" was awarded Best in Show at the Oregon Society for Artists 2022 Photography Showcase. This image was made last year on a cool late September morning in Glacier National Park. As I was crossing a foot bridge over McDonald Creek, I looked down over the railing and was presented with this scene. I was immediately struck by the sight of the cold water rushing around the form of the tree roots and trunk. I chose a shutter speed of 1/5 sec to capture the kinetic excitement of the fast moving water.

The 2022 Photography Showcase will remain on view in OSA's gallery through April 27. Info at www.osartists.org

Vascular Cures Gala and Auction

I am honored to have one of my images included in the silent auction of the Vascular Cures annual gala for the second year in a row. This year, I am pleased to contribute a print of Fern Spring, Yosemite. Last year, my image Black Oaks, El Capitan Meadow was successfully auctioned.

Vascular Cures (vascularcures.org) is a wonderful non-profit focused on “representing the millions of patients with vascular diseases outside the heart.” They are dedicated to “reducing pain, disability and death from these all-too-common diseases.”

Yosemite Images utilized online by Yosemite Conservancy

I am delighted that Yosemite Conservancy has published two of my images (Black Oaks, El Capitan Meadow, and Juniper Tenaya Lake) in their January 10, 2017 social media updates on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.  I am pleased any time conservation and environmental organizations want to use my images.  If you are not familiar with Yosemite Conservancy, take a look - they are a great organization and a significant reason why Yosemite National Park continues to be well maintained, well protected, and such an amazing place to visit! www.yosemiteconservancy.org.
